I think I'm average in real life, but in pictures I always look mess up. My nostrils usually open up large and my smile looks retarded because I'm faking. What can I do to look nice in pictures?
Natural lighting really helps. Also the colors surrounding you. If you're wearing a black shirt, and it's a bright sunny day, your face is most likely going to turn out extremely white because the camera will be trying to focus on the black shirt. Also try doing angles, and your facial expression really changes how your picture will look. So rather than doing a super excited and fake smile like ":D" type smile, try a small, sweet, smile; like ":)" An angle that looks good on a lot of people is kinda above your head and so the side, like you're standing diagonally above someone if you understand what I'm saying. Also mirror pictures tend to look good because the camera doesnt pick up detail as well from far away so if you have any imperfections such as acne it really wont show as bad, if at all, from the far away mirror picture.
Some people just aren't photogenic.

I always look sickly in pictures, and all my flaws are so much more noticeable. . Bleh. Try different settings on your camera, maybe that will help?
It could be your camera maybe? Mine makes me look weird, but I usually look normal when I get natural lighting, maybe try taking some pictures outside. Or take a mirror picture (my pictures always turn out better that way because i can see myself) , and I wouldn't use flash unless it is necessary.

Try to get as much natural light in as possible. Photograph light just messes everything up.
its probaly your camera. just go to walmart and pick up a new cheap one. after a while it starts to getcrappy. dont use over flash either
You're probably not photogenic. There's tons of people I know who are hot, pretty, whatever...and in pictures they just look bleh.
Don't fake your smile, first of all. The real smile is always the prettiest to other people, because it doesn't look like you're faking.
Just act like yourself and when the pic is being taken, pretend like you're just smiling at someone because they said something really nice to you =] Works for me!
this happens to me too. just think of something cute like a cute puppy or something that makes you smile like that sneezing panda on youtube then your smile will look natural. it works for me!
