What is the maximum length for facial hair before you MUST shave? (AIR FORCE)?

One of my supervisors once mentioned that there was a certain length your facial hair can be before you must shave. So I am curious if its ok to have like a 5 o'clock shadow pretty much.
Members must keep facial hair trimmed not to exceed 1/4 inch in length.
