Taking out my belly button ring questions?

I've had my belly button pierced for almost 2 years. It started migrating and now the skin is really thin and I want to take it out before it rips out. I have 3 questions:

1. How long will it take to heal?
2. How should I clean it once it's out?
3. How long should I wait before getting it re-pierced?

Thank you so much for your help! :D

Sara has a great answer if it is irritated or infected when you take it out yes you should clean it..

Mine was ripped out by a friend (accident) and i repierced mine after 3 months :)
But it does depend on how fast you heal :)

You really should take it out ASAP. The longer you leave it in, the worse your scar will be. It should probably heal up within a year, to the point of being able to re-pierce it again. Keep in mind though that scar tissue is hard to pierce through, and your piercer might not think it is a good idea to re-pierce the area, depending on the severity on the scar. Some people's bodies are more prone to rejection and migration than others. Since yours was pierced for so long, it probably isn't the result of a bad piercing job, and it is more likely that this is just your bodies natural reaction, so I would think twice before I pierced it again. If you do though, you might want to do it in a larger gauge, at least a 14 or a 12, to reduce the risk of it rejecting again.

If it's irritated when you do take it out, I would just treat it like a new piercing and do sea salt soaks once or twice a day. If it looks like it's getting infected, you are going to want to head to your doctor as soon as you can. It's a common misconception that you should take out a piercing when it becomes infected. In reality, if you take out the piercing when it is infected and the top layer of skin heals up over the infection, you trap the infection under the skin and it will probably take a quick course of antibiotics to clear up. Obviously in your case you have to take the piercing out, but just be careful and watch it really closely is all I am trying to say.

Good luck!
